Since Trump’s inauguration, we’ve taken to the streets, camera in hand, to capture the energy he’s unleashed.  The crowds have been determined — to fight back, to remove him, to save the nation and the planet — but it’s been pretty joyful, all in all, from the Women’s March through the Climate March and the smaller ones like last week’s March for Truth.  Even those spontaneous demonstrations following the Muslim Ban were filled with fellowship, if not precisely happiness — people smiled for the camera, they were glad to be counted.

The 2017 Capital Pride Parade today was as if the blight of Trump had not settled upon the land.  It’s always a fun event, but today’s felt like we caught a glimpse of what life will be when this pestilential administration has gone back where it came from.  What a delight it is to live in a city with such a large and dynamic LGBTQ community, and their thousands of friends, gay and straight, who come out each year to show their true colors.

Pride 2016-24

So the news this morning is about a terrorist attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando.  This is so terrible and outrageous, on every level, and particularly sad after the joyous spectacle staged in DC and elsewhere yesterday.   Readers of Tulip Frenzy know we adore The D.C. Funk Parade and believe that each autumn’s High Heel Race is one of the most fun events in our city or anywhere else.  But for sheer happiness, nothing can compete with the Capital Pride Parade, and in 2016, on a gorgeous, very hot day, it was sheer delight. Herewith some images. Click on any image for the slide show.

Washington, D.C.’s Capital Pride Parade is the single most joyous event that takes place annually in the Nation’s Capital.  Gay and straight, young and old, all come out to celebrate — and this year seemed, by far, the biggest such celebration ever.  Here’s a collection of images taken along the parade route.

Pride In The Name Of Love

Yesterday was Washington D.C.’s Capital Pride Parade, one of the longest-running gay pride events in the U.S.  For a photographer, it was a “target-rich environment.”  We’ll be posting more in the days ahead.  For now, here are some images to give you a sense of the evening — the golden light, the happiness of the participants, what a scene it was.  All images Leica M, 35mm Summilux Asph FLE.
